Karen Forte Enviroment Conservation Foundation Kenya

Karen is an exceptional grade 6 pupil at Rophine Group of Schools in Utawala, Nairobi County, aged 11. Elected as the Cabinet Secretary of Environment at her school in 2023 and re-elected in 2024, she founded the Rophine School Environmental Club, planting over 1172 trees to date. Additionally, she serves as the CEO of the Karen Forte Environment Conservation Foundation, aiding communities in their climate fight.

Her passion for environmentalism blossomed in 2018 when she showcased a recycled plastic and straw outfit at Little Mr. and Miss Kenya, earning her a spot in the International Eco Project competition. Winning the Silver Eco Award in Tenerife, Spain in 2019 ignited her commitment to environmental causes.

Her attendance at COP27 in Egypt in 2022 made her the youngest delegate in history, garnering global media attention and engagements with world leaders, including Kenya’s President William Ruto.

She continued to make waves, speaking at the Pan-African KUSI Ideas Festival in Nairobi and being honoured by the British High Commission for her conservation efforts. Her work led to a special invitation to plant a tree with King Charles III of England during his state visit to Kenya in 2023. Recognized by organizations like the African Development Bank, Graca Machel Foundation, and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, she continues to advocate for climate action while excelling academically. Her ability to balance her conservation work with her studies inspires discipline and excellence in all she does.

Karen Wanjiru is an extraordinary young leader, truly embodying the spirit of environmental stewardship and activism. Her journey from showcasing a recycled outfit to becoming a prominent figure in global climate discussions is incredibly inspiring.
